Fear makes you freeze.
Just think, where would
you be without these?

This week in the US we celebrate Independence Day on July 4th. It is a day we celebrate the incredible freedom of our nation and as I thought about it, it occurred to me there was a lesson of independence here for leaders: namely 15 fears to set free in order to lead. The amount of effort you spend protecting yourself from what you fear is keeping you from what you want, and
when you’re a leader… what they can get done or become. Set the fears free and see just how much better a leader you’ll be.

The fear it won’t all get done
The fear of having fun
The fear of what others think
The fear of making a stink
The fear of taking a risk
The fear of being great
The fear of your failure rate
The fear of backing off
The fear of blowing your top
The fear of facing the things you don’t like
The fear of what you’ll do if performance spikes
The fear of losing control
The fear of being over thrown
The fear of leaving something out if you relax
The fear of being embarrassed if you back track

The reality? No leader is perfect and all make mistakes. Find your instincts and follow their lead and reach out to team members for the input you need. Know there’s a flow of good times and bad and don’t let the times you mess up make you overly sad. You’re a leader, with or without a cape and special powers, and what matters is that they look to you for guidance at almost all hours. They want you to be real and human and even lack perfection, which means having fun and having failed, having been stressed and having done more with less, needs to be have occurred in recent recollection.

Leaders filled with fear, fail. So free up your fears, figure out what they are, stick your neck out there and help someone on the team you lead be a true super star!
