It’s true. What you read can help you learn how to lead.

Leadership lessons are everywhere, if you’re paying attention. This morning’s Wall Street Journal and breaking news give us three clues. Microsoft’s sexy comeback, the New York Doctor infected with Ebola, and Oprah’s Google search results might just top the charts to name a few. But what do these events teach us about leadership?

Microsoft was down thanks to Apple and others, but is now making a comeback with revenue up 11%, defying all sales expectations. What did they do that leaders need to duplicate? Is your reputation down? Do you need innovation in your communication to keep up with the generation of employee’s you’re hiring? What are you selling that they’re not buying anymore?

Ebola, the current trend that reminds me of focus groups encouraging me to ditch the word “Contagious” in my company name at the time when Anthrax was in the news.  This was really, really scary, and was infecting every news headline in the world. The leadership lesson here is what are you saying, sharing, or doing that is spreading among the team you lead? What makes headlines for them in their work, their day, and their interaction with you? Is it the message you want them to spread?

And finally…ahhh Oprah. Yes, Oprah. One of the world’s wealthiest, most successful women who continue to climb the charts and she holds her OWN as a woman with 23 million Twitter followers. Her Facebook page is in the top 50 and what does she do? She’s real and she makes people feel. Do you?

I’m Monica Wofford and that’s your Monday Moment. Have a great week, an even better Monday, and of course, stay contagious!
