In a recent episode of our Monday Moments, we shifted gears from leadership to management.
And while we’ve talked about the three C’s of how to start leading, as you know, there will always be days, projects, and details that require us to manage instead of lead. So how do you make management happen?
There are three effective methods for making management happen and happen in a way that doesn’t impede your ability to lead:
- Monitor what’s needed, when it’s needed, for whom, and how many. From days off to customer products, develop systems to keep track.
- Modify your approach as changes happen daily. Flexibility saves time and avoids unnecessary problems.
- Magnify your perspective — zoom out to see how the details connect to the bigger picture and uncover solutions you might otherwise miss.
Management is about keeping the pieces moving smoothly, while leadership develops people. Both are necessary, and knowing when to use each is key.
