Well hello there and Happy Monday! I’m Monica Wofford and this is your Monday Moment.
Ya know, the truth is no book, video, or training can adequately equip you with all you need to know about leading. This is an area that requires doing and practicing, so every so often our Monday Moments will shift to share more of what feel like homework assignments rather than new nuggets of information.
If this is your first Monday Moment, you could start here or take a moment to review previous episodes for even more fabulous leadership content.
In order to practice on becoming an even better leader, let’s shift to the classroom and talk about homework.
This is one of my favorite rooms in the office because it’s where learning happens and over the course of the next week, for your leadership learning, try the following:
- Learn Each Person
- What is their personality? Style? Preference? Temperament? Objectively, not just your opinion. Maybe give them the snapshot from last week’s episode.
- Ask Their Input
- Spend time with each direct report and ask what they need from you and what they expect from you as a leader.
- Self Asses (not what that word LOOKS like. )
- Be honest about what skills you have and what skills you need and start gathering the resources to help you develop the ones you feel need extra.
To be that well respected, admired, and effective leader requires that you not only lead others, but also be yourself, and lead yourself before, after, and each interaction.
I’m Monica Wofford and let’s keep talking… leadership.
