Well hello there and Happy Monday! I’m Monica Wofford and this is your Monday Moment.

Leadership is a topic that has it’s own aisle at the book store and a category of millions of reads on Amazon. It’s been talked about and trained since the Industrial Revolution and even earlier, but when it comes right down to it, what most really just want to know is what does it take?

There are the skills and then there are the nuances and yet there IS a bottom line to all of Leadership and for many a new – and seasoned – leader, sometimes the bottom line and getting back to it, is of utmost importance.

Maybe if we look at this differently, it would be helpful. Imagine your clothes shopping. Men might be on a mission. Many women might be browsing. And what you’re going to wear may depend on the event, the people attending, or even the weather, but at the end of the day, the reason you wear clothing is to not walk around naked.

Yep, I said it.

Leadership has a similar bottom line. To be a leader, yes you need skills in communication, delegation, development and emotional intelligence, but the bottom line is you must have these three things: Desire, Skills, and Practice. Without any of these three elements, you’re kinda walking around… well… naked.

So the real questions then, are these:

  • Do you have the desire to lead?
  • What skills might you need to lead even better than you are now?
  • And what will be the first thing you practice on for improvement?

I’m Monica Wofford and let’s keep talking… leadership.
