Well hello there and Happy Monday! I’m Monica Wofford and this is your Monday Moment.

It’s almost that time again.

  • School buses.
  • Fresh notebooks.
  • Parents taking first-day-school photos with years of embarrassment potential.

Every August we remind children that learning matters. Then somewhere along the way, many adults quietly decide they’re finished.

  • They graduate.
  • They get promoted.
  • They earn a title.

And suddenly learning becomes optional. Even at times resented, and yet, here’s what I’ve noticed after working with leaders for a few years now and it is this: The strongest leaders in the room are almost never the ones who believe they already know enough or have stopped learning.

They’re the ones asking questions. Reading books. Attending conferences. Listening more than talking. Engaging with courses and coaches. Because leadership isn’t a destination at which you finally arrive. The most effective leaders keep learning.

In fact, it’s a journey of skills you either sharpen… or start to lose slowly over time.

This week, ask yourself one simple question:

“What have I learned in the last thirty days that has made me a better leader?”

If the answer takes a while to find, perhaps August isn’t just back-to-school season.

Maybe it’s back-to-learning season.

I’m Monica Wofford and let’s keep talking… leadership.
