Monica Wofford, CSP, teaches leaders to understand and improve their own leadership confidence in using practice, skills, and desire as their three areas of focus.

What do you wish you had, but perhaps already do.. its all about your contagious confidence beliefs… not your wishes.

This cartoon made me laugh out loud and then it made me think. Do you remember the Wizard of Oz and the wishes of the Tin Man, The Lion, the Scarecrow and Dorothy? Do you remember how deeply they wished they had a brain, a heart, and courage and could get home and how nothing seemed to work to get them those things until they finally believed they already had them? Hmmm…

What you wish for and wish you had is often phrased in your mind as something you DON’T currently have and wish you could get. Let’s take confidence for example, contagious confidence in fact. If you wish you had contagious confidence it is usually at a time when you find you’re lacking in some way and you are focused on how much of it you don’t think you have, but wish you did. That will get you more of what you don’t want in a hurry. And whether you think you have it or think you don’t, both are still contagious.

Spend time believing you have confidence and knowing that it will show up just when you need it most and feel what it would feel like to have confidence and lo and behold it will likely arrive. Remember, it’s about your focus and how you feel. Wishing you had it and having it, or feeling as if you do, are two very different things.
